The cosmetic industry is rich in products labelled as miracles, but their effects pale in comparison to the treatments offered in beauty salons.
It has never been easier to stave off the ageing process’s most dreaded results.
If you are in search of the facial best suited to your needs, many salons offer a wide range of treatments to choose from, but it’s always best to first know and understand what it is that you’re actually looking for.
Classic Facial
Your face is your most exposed feature on your body. This leaves it vulnerable to things like sun damage, pollution and other elements. A classic facial involves a range of beauty treatments which aims at replenishing balance to your skin, leaving it clear and healthy.
The treatment includes, above all else, a basic cleansing, toning and moisturising. All of which are aimed to assist in the restoration of elasticity, combating acne and impurities, and rejuvenating your skin.
After steaming to open up the pores and allow extraction, dead skin cells are removed with a gentle scrub or peel. You are then massaged to relax the facial muscles, drain toxins and stimulate circulation, then a firming mask is applied to rehydrate and brighten your skin.
Cosmetic Acupuncture
Facial acupuncture is conducted similarly to any other type of acupuncture. It boosts the flow of blood by inserting narrow needles into specific pressure points on your face. This flushes out toxins and clears up circulation. It also helps to transport nutrients and oxygen more efficiently.
Facial acupuncture, in addition to assisting in the production of collagen and promoting elasticity, has also shown to help with the regulation of hormones to control acne. It’s also a common anti-wrinkle procedure.
Microdermabrasion
When performed continually, Microdermabrasion allows you to continue looking youthful by getting rid of dead skin cells that build up on the surface of the skin.
The procedure can be performed in several different ways:
- A diamond-tipped handpiece is used to exfoliate dead cells on the surface of the skin and gently suctions them off. The depth of the abrasion is controlled by the pressure applied to the handheld device.
- Crystal microdermabrasion is performed by using a crystal-emitting handpiece to spray fine crystals on the skin that is wiped away gently, after which the dead skin cells are suctioned off.
- Hydradermabrasion is a more recent method that combines an infusion of products with crystal-free exfoliation. This promotes collagen production and stimulates blood circulation in the skin.
Radiofrequency
This procedure involves heating up your skin. A machine is used to increase the temperature of the skin to between 38-40 degrees using radiofrequency. The sensation is similar to a hot stone massage, but it is quite comfortable.
The process results in a tightening of the collagen fibres and has a long-lasting effect by the production of collagen for several weeks after the treatment.
Microcurrent Facials
The small current offered by this treatment is designed to function as a muscle-stimulating agent that firms the muscles in the face. It starts slow and increases gradually until you achieve the firmness you’re aiming for.
The treatment has been known to promote the production of elastin and collagen, which results in younger-looking skin. It has also been said to accelerate lymphatic drainage processes, which reduces the look of puffiness.
The treatment starts like a classic facial, including exfoliating, serums and masking procedures, followed by the application of a conductive gel. Two wands from the machine are then used to run the electrical current through. They are placed gently on the desired areas for a few seconds at a time before moving on to the next area.
The signal sent by the current firms and strengthens the muscles.
Galvanic Facial
If you struggle with dry skin, then a galvanic facial is for you. The treatment includes a handheld device that works similar to a magnet, to push a low voltage current past the protective layer of skin.
This will allow water-soluble product to seep through the surface of the skin, and by extension improves the skin’s ability to retain moisture as well as absorb the product.
Because of its ability to improve moisture retention in the skin, a galvanic facial is ideal for people suffering from dry and dehydrated skin. It can also be recommended to people who struggle with acne, because of the targeted unclogging of pores and minimising the oils on the skin that lead to imperfections on the skin.
This current improves blood flow, tightens and clears the skin and minimises the appearance of wrinkles. It also detoxifies the skin by using a negative charge and then extracting them with a positive charge. This fluctuation between positive and negative charges contracts the muscles and promotes elasticity.
